Just wondering what the opinions are.

when it comes to camo, do we really need it?

I'm pretty lazy on mine. my buddy has bought me some as the tree bark pattern from the 80's embaressed him when when we were together.

Heck, I've killed just as many deer with street clothes, as have with camo.

Now, let me say I hunt from elevated stands.

Still hunting, I would have a different opinion.

I used to wear a lot of straight black. Deer never saw me. I think camo is over rated. That being said, now I usually were one of those camo suits that is cut up to be more like a ghillie suit.

I've always wore it and had all kinds of wild game get within 10 feet of me. In my experience, it helps, especially the 3D stuff.

I haven't hunted without it and don't want to chance something seeing me because I didn't wear it.

I've been in street clothes and had a deer stare right at me and not seem to see me because I froze still. I don't even own any camo. I wear bright orange when I hunt deer anyway. I did read that deer see blue very well so I try to avoid that color.

I've got mixed feelings about this subject. Sometimes I've felt like it helped and other times it didn't matter that I wasn't wearing it. I shot my first buck with a bow when I was wearing my Carhartt bibs and a long sleeve jean shirt. 15yd shot from a stand that was about 14' up. In saying that I have also been busted wearing the same thing. I've been busted wearing camo too though. So, I don't really know, my gut tells me it doesn't matter. Look at old pictures and videos from back in the day. Those guys got it done without any camo.

I've heard people argue that camo helps break-up the hunter's outline. That could be true, but any diurnal animal like a deer has poorer day time vision than we do.
The only thing you have to worry about with a deer is his nose.

I wear it, but I've killed a lot of deer while I was wearing my brown duck coveralls too. IMO, movement will get you busted as quick as anything. I've been still hunting and froze when I saw a deer at a distance and had them walk right by without ever noticing me.

Camo is all a fashin bug for men in the woods. Deer are color blind, with a sensitivity to UV light. Dont wash your clothes in your wifes Tide. What they can do, is see movement really well, and have a good sense of smell. If you where a light color and lay against something dark, they will see light grey against black. Work with that, lots cheaper then the latest Bill Jordan gimmick, lol.

I have no doubt that if i sat in my treestand in normal clothes and kept my scent and movement to a minimum that I would kill just as many deer as with camo on. I am done buying high dollar camo. Matter of fact I might just hunt in khakis and a polo this year:wink2:
