Because Republicans tend to have more of a sense of humor about politics. Most (but not all) Dems and liberals tend to be a little stuffy about it. I can tease most Republicans and they laugh and fire one back. Tease a Dem and they will usually get defensive or puff up.
You want to really see some far lefties freak out? Tell them you are "Greener" then they are, you even recycle the brass you use to shoot Bambi.
But to let you in on a little secret, I am fairer then I let on. At the political forum I am the Mod on, I have booted twice as many righties as I have lefties for crossing the line. I had to boot one last night during a debate about the AZ shooting.
So the liberals are sensitive and puff up while the conservatives have a sense of humor, yet you have to boot twice as many conservatives as liberals from the other site.

But so does the Democrat party, the lefty talking heads, the righty talking heads and pretty much everyone else. As bulbboy pointed out it is nothing new.
As to what happened to moderation, a lot of it got lost along the way because to both parties moderation pretty much means "you cave in to my ideas" Until both parties can learn to work together for the good of the country instead of just getting re-elected nothing is going to change on this front.
I should also point out that both parties tend to call for moderation when they are not the party in power or do not have complete control to pass whatever they want. When they do have the power they become arrogant dicks. Obama / Reid / Pelosi are just the latest example but by no means the first.

Here's what I've found: the right has an absolutely fabulous sense of humor when they're mocking the left. And.. oh, hey... the left has a truly amazing sense of humor when mocking the right. But, boy.. when someone starts mocking something THEY believe... all of a sudden not so funny.

Probably because of what the term Teabagger means and the way it is used. It is not a joke and is not intended to be one. It is a flat out insult of a personal nature. I may be wrong but I think you know that.

Actually... actually... wait... I just figured it out. It's a JOKE when it's knocking down something the OTHER guy thinks is important. It's a personal insult when it's knocking down something that YOU think is important.
