I did my training in Lawton about three years ago. The guy charged $15 (might be $25 now) and went over everything thoroughly in detail. He covered gun safety, handling, gun laws, interpretation of laws, ect. He also owns a pawnshop / gunshop so had various firearms examples for people to handle if they were unfamiliar with them. The class took all morning and then he took us out to an outdoor range on someone's farm for the live fire portion of the class.

Have not found anyone who comes close to that level of instruction at even remotely close to that price.

If you're wanting the "cheapest" overall (class cost & state license fees), look into taking the Utah non-resident CCW class. Overall, it provides lots of advantages, little to none disadvantages.

Thats what I meant by my comment. I see some places offering it for like $35 but it makes me think for that cheap your only gonna get $35 worth of training in the CCW course. But if you dont mind payin the $60 you can get a very good course at USSA.

It could be that people that charge $35 have day jobs and do this as a hobby. I love this sport and try to do my diligence to make sure it is available for my heirs. The more people we get signed up with the knowledge and new found love of firearms the better we will be.

We charge $35 bucks because we love doing it and not for the money. Our overhead is very low, so there is no need to charge the maximum. I get to sit around all day, talk about and shoot guns in my free time. I should be paying our students instead of them paying me.

This is exactly my point(in bold). For $35 you get training from someone who does this for a hobby. Where as at USSA you get training from professional firearms instructors who are either military or law enforcement qualified. So there is a difference in the training recieved at different locations & for different costs. That is the only point I was making.

This is where you could be wrong.

So would you assume that a class taught by a hobbiests would be taught exactly the same as a class taught by a instructor who is current/ex millitary/LEO?? I have a hard time believing the training would be the same. Granted "topics" discussed would be similar & should be for all Oklahoma CCW courses, but there will be a difference in "instruction" IMO.

Luckily we all get to choose where we take our classes. I prefer to take "instruction" from instructors who have more than likely been involved in the type of situations or combat if you will thats being taught. Again, this is just my personal preference.

The original question involved wondering about the "best" course available. My opinion is if you want best you go to USSA, if you want cheapest, shop around.

I would the people doing it for profit would teach only what is required. The hobbyist teach above and beyond their call of duty because it's their passion. This is soley based on my personal experience having been through several classes held by the fine folks at carrylegal.com

This is my last comment on this topic.

From my bolded part, this leads me to believe you've never been to USSA then or recieved training from their facility. Would this be a correct statement?
