I reckon I'm really lucky, got my 1911 back today, and the cracked barrel.

It had to be a squib load that stuck a bullet in the barrel, then the next shot blew both bullets out.

I'd venture to say $112.00 to a gunsmith is considerably cheaper than a trip to an emergency room.

When the gunsmith first saw the gun, he said it was a hot load. Now he also feels it was a stuck bullet.

I still don't understand how a squib load can cycle the action. If it doesn't have the power to clear the barrel, how can it have the power to cycle that heavy slide? Gas pressure maybe?

It might have too much power, forcing the bullet to mushroom and causing it to get stuck in the barrel. The slide would still cycle normally and the bullet would remain in the barrel.
