This St Valentine's Day I convincingly proved that it is better to be lucky than good.
My wife had several times mentioned to me that she thought those "Sharrie's Berries" type gifts would be a very nice change from flowers or other candy.
So being an alert, attentive husband I decided to order some for her from our local Edible Arrangements place in Lawton.
However, being somewhat of a procrastinator I also waited until this weekend to place the order and discovered that the Lawton place was already maxed out - no more orders being taken for the 14th.
That was bad, I did not want to highlight that I was what I was - a procrastinating husband who was able to successfully buy a boatload of ammo but failed to get anything for his despite weeks of being reminded!
Sharrie's was happy to rush order...if I basically paid double their normal fee for express shipping and special handling - yikes! and Wally World teddy bears would not do at this point. It was then that I received an inspiration - I could do this myself - so I bought a whole bunch of my own luscious looking strawberries and blackberries and spent late last night - after the wife was asleep - making a pretty decent looking fancy arrangement of chocolate dipped, sprinkled, and otherwise decorated fruit that awaited my wife this morning. (Oh yeah I cleaned everything up completely - no kitchen disaster to see in the AM)
Gents, let me tell you it paid of big - I went from likely Valentine Day zero to Valentine Hero as soon as she walked into the kitchen. She especially liked that I made the stuff myself instead of buying it - go figure? I think there was a valuable lesson here for me and for us all but, unless it is "don't worry about planning you can pull it off by sheer effort in the endgame" I'm not smart enough to figure it out. That's OK because I am now good for one more year.
