Valentine move takes me from zero to hero (but it was close!)

This St Valentine's Day I convincingly proved that it is better to be lucky than good.

My wife had several times mentioned to me that she thought those "Sharrie's Berries" type gifts would be a very nice change from flowers or other candy.
So being an alert, attentive husband I decided to order some for her from our local Edible Arrangements place in Lawton.
However, being somewhat of a procrastinator I also waited until this weekend to place the order and discovered that the Lawton place was already maxed out - no more orders being taken for the 14th.
That was bad, I did not want to highlight that I was what I was - a procrastinating husband who was able to successfully buy a boatload of ammo but failed to get anything for his despite weeks of being reminded!
Sharrie's was happy to rush order...if I basically paid double their normal fee for express shipping and special handling - yikes! and Wally World teddy bears would not do at this point. It was then that I received an inspiration - I could do this myself - so I bought a whole bunch of my own luscious looking strawberries and blackberries and spent late last night - after the wife was asleep - making a pretty decent looking fancy arrangement of chocolate dipped, sprinkled, and otherwise decorated fruit that awaited my wife this morning. (Oh yeah I cleaned everything up completely - no kitchen disaster to see in the AM)

Gents, let me tell you it paid of big - I went from likely Valentine Day zero to Valentine Hero as soon as she walked into the kitchen. She especially liked that I made the stuff myself instead of buying it - go figure? I think there was a valuable lesson here for me and for us all but, unless it is "don't worry about planning you can pull it off by sheer effort in the endgame" I'm not smart enough to figure it out. That's OK because I am now good for one more year.

I tried the Sheri's Berries this year for my wife after hearing the commercials on Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity's radio shows for weeks. They were delivered yesterday and I was really disapointed in the small size compared to how they are hyped. One leaked juice all in the box too. I wish I had got some from the guy selling them in the classifieds now but I had already ordered them before I saw his ad. Would have been cheaper too. I will never buy Sheri's Berries again.

SPINELESS! You caved to pressure from society!

You should have given her a Strawberry Poptart and said, "baby, we dont need one day as Valentines day, becuase everyday is Valentines day with you." ;)

I admit it - I am a wiggly worm - but one with a happy wife. So, by definition I am now happy as well.

Sounds like you did well mugsy!

Your mention of her liking that you did it yourself goes a long way too I think. I know that my wife appreciates when I put time and thought and effort into a gift like that too.

I have heard of disappointments from Sherri's Berries more often than I have heard good.

Edible Arrangements has never disappointed me and my wife appreciates chocolate covered fruit way more than roses.

You men with wives are whipped. Badly. :wink2:

My wife gave me a pass on Valentine's Day this year, since I've been couch- and bed-bound for days with a bad back, popping pills like Whitney Houston. <sigh>

'Course, I got her a Valentine's Day present a week or so early when I gave her her new Taurus 709 Slim last weekend. :)
