It seems that our Supreme Court Justices are being targeted by criminals. Thank goodness in all of these cases none of them had a gun or it could have gotten very bad! Remember your Honors, do what the criminal says, never resist and you will be fine. As long as you feel safe, who really needs a gun?

WASHINGTON – Justice Stephen Breyer was robbed last week by a machete-wielding intruder at his vacation home in the West Indies, a Supreme Court spokeswoman said Monday.

The 73-year-old Breyer, wife Joanna and guests were confronted by the robber around 9 p.m. EST Thursday in the home Breyer owns on the Caribbean island of Nevis, spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said. The intruder took about $1,000 in cash and no one was hurt, Arberg said....

...The last time a justice was the victim of a crime was in 2004, when a group of young men assaulted Justice David Souter as he jogged on the street in Washington.

In 1996, a man snatched Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's purse while she was out walking with her husband and daughter near their home in Washington. Ginsburg was not hurt.

The justices return from a nearly month-long recess for a closed-door conference on Friday. They will next meet in public on February 21.

Of course it was a machete. They were in the Caribbean. Everybody has a machete there. It's like a third hand. Hell, my wife bought ma a machete for the next time we go to Puerto Rico, just so I'll fit in.

Dave's right. Machetes in the Caribbean are like pocketknives here. And crime on the Caribbean islands is pretty rampant, especially against whites who are perceived as "rich" by many of the locals. The off-season is particularly bad about this kind of thing. Luckily most of the the crime tends to be non-violent, but it is escalating over time. Very sad.

I saw this last night while re-reading the D.C. vs Heller decision (2008). What's interesting is Breyer, Souter and Ginsburg are all victims of robbery and all signed off on the dissenting opinion which didn't believe the 2nd Amendment was an "individual" right per-se.

I don't see how this incident would have any bearing on laws here in the states. This happened on foreign soil.

Additionally, all three cases actually do support the anti-gun movement. No one suffered great bodily injury or was killed in any of the SCJ cases brought to light here so to say they didn't need a gun would be accurate. We don't shoot to defend our belongings remember? We shoot to defend our lives.

That is NOT a machete, but it is a seriously cool blade. What is it, if you don't mind me asking?

1.The anti-gun crowd is quite fond of quoting foreign law. 2. I am 70 years old, If I were to be assaulted by a "group of young men", or even one, with a machete, I would probably arrive, rather rapidly, at the idea, that the furtherance of my life was not their primary concern.
