Getting sniped sucks. If you really want the item bad enough, auctionsniper.com will let you set up a bid that can submit with 3 seconds left. I think the first 3 entries are free.

My sentiments exactly. By the way, do these automated snipe programs sneak in the highest bid no matter what the current bid is, or does the loser - er, I mean, user - put in a max dollar figure?

Gunbroker has it right where a bid placed within the last 15 minutes (I think that's the time interval) resets the clock for another 15 minutes, to prevent the sniping on eBay and other sites. The down side to this is that a hotly contested auction can drag on for hours after the nominal closing time.
