I am thinking of doing Dennis' cosmo dip, vacuum sealing then putting a diaper in the bottom of the PVC tube, under the vacuum sealed bag to collect any seeping moisture. Burying it vertically next to a fence post using post hole diggers or an auger? Tape a hacksaw blade out side, and mounting a strap on top of the cylinder to help pull it out. I may do it with a Mosin to see how it would do?

if its properly sealed with a vacuum it won't need anything else but the cosmoline mix. I'd hate to put anything in there that would attract and hold moisture. Diapers are designed to do that.

I agree. I am not putting the diaper in the bag with the gun, it would go in the bottom of the PVC outside the vacuum sealed bag, in the event the tube leaked, hopefully it would draw that moisture away from the bag, but not inside it. I think the same as you, if it is in there, it is holding moisture against the gun.
