Why is this thread important? If you think you can do the job with out one then prove it. If you are not willing to do it then shut up! Jeeze it's so easy to Monday morning QB. Don't even start to talk about what people need or don't need unless you have the experience or education. This is the same reason we are fighting the purposed gun ban right now, because we don't need them! Stop your hypocritical babel.

Actually, this conversation is important because its a discussion concerning our 2A rights. As a citizen if you aren't concerned about the government arming the local police departments with weapons that are only useful in war then you may not understand what hypocritical means.

Only useful in war?

I thought that's one of the notions we are fighting against?

But I agree that we should have the same ability to own full auto weapons

I guess I should be more clear. I have NO problem with any PD getting FA weapons. I just don't think that it is the tactical advantage that would make a difference in about any situation a police officer is likely to encounter. Accurate semi-auto fire is about as effective as you are going to get. But I'm not LEO or anything so if you feel it is warranted then carry on. Just don't see the big difference in the effectiveness of semi vs auto.

I would suggest a ride along my friend. Sgtmojo would love to have you, it might open your eyes to what kind a "war" is out there. It's not the one that you get to see on the news it's the one in your back yard. Between drugs and the criminal element ther may come a time that superior force is needed. It is hypercritical to sit here and say some one doesn't need something I believe that is the same argument we now face. The goverment is not supplying the police force with arms they are buying them, sometimes the job requires a sledge hammer!

No, I don't need to do a ride along and I don't care if cops have f/a as long as they are not better armed than the citizens.

I have had a few full auto weapons. They are fun! I doubled my money when I sold the last one, but probably spent three times that on ammo and repairs over the years. I suggest TW25B grease on a full auto weapon like the M16.

A 10.5" sounds fun to shoot. Woot Woot.

I loved the "finger" smiley.

Get off my lawn.
There are select few times when a machine gun is advantageous in a fight. I hope the departments putting these in on the job are training for that. More often than not the full auto setting is going to give the bad guy the advantage due to poorly aimed fire and extra reloads.

I have no problem whatsoever with the Ada PD having M-16's. They may not need them today or tomorrow, but they may need them at some point, just like cops in the roaring 20's needed full auto to deal with the bank robber gangs.

What I have a problem with is that the Ada PD can get them from the U.S. Gov't for $25 each, while it will cost a normal citizen $15,000-$20,000 for the exact same thing. :(
