Catfishing...no, not fishing

Has anybody heard the term "catfishing"?...2 people get in an online relationship, fall in love, one wants to meet the other, the other always has an excuse, so after a year or so, they still haven't met....the one person is head over heels in love with the other and vice versa.....turns out the one person is pretty much made up, either a dude pretending to be a girl or just nothing like the person they claimed to be, fake pics on their facebook page, fake cell phone pics.....I thought it was all BS and just made up for TV...

Well, turns out, a childhood friend of mine that I don't talk to very often recently changed his relationship status, so I was thinking to myself, good for him...he's a nice guy, and deserves a nice girl......so I click on her FB page and was like Wholly Sh*t she is HOT!!.....too Hot....I mean, I'm no stud, but I'm in a lot better shape than him, I have a job and make good money....he is a short order cook and spends his days on XBOX and smoking pot.....so I start doing a lil interwebz stalking and turns out all the pics on her page are of this chic.... Adrienne Manning The other red flags were...she only had a handful of friends and they were all dudes.

So, I messaged him and told him my concerns....was I wrong to open my mouth?....I know it's none of my business, but we were pretty good friends when we were kids, and I know that he's had a rough time with relationships in the last few yrs. So I just felt like giving him a heads up.

Soounds fishy to me. <sorry> You wouldn't be a true friend if you didn't share your concerns with him. Wonder how he has represented himself to her? Maybe as a "French model?"

Probably not. He sounds like one of the many lost, desperate people looking for something better.

I wish him luck, and hope you can keep the friendship intact.

Does she also want him to send $250 to claim his lottery prize? Maybe she needs to transfer millions of dollars but needs someone in the US to do it by giving their bank account information and SSN?

I have an old friend that got caught in that, but not him, but his fat wife. His wife is sending photos of her cute niece to this guy in Ohio (?) and passing her self off as the niece and swapping hot e-mails and phone sex back and forth with her new boyfriend. My buddy caught on to what she was doing, divorced her and sent the man in Ohio a photo of his ex-wife. New boyfriend wont answer her e-mails anymore and changed his phone number to unlisted.

I've heard of a bottom feeders who were called catfish, but I suppose for a different reason. Never heard of the definition you refer to.
