Next thing you know people will be marrying cows and sheep.

Oh, that's just the beginning of this particular slippery slope. Some day soon, your next door neighbor will be outside in his driveway pronouncing vows to his '72 Barracuda. Hippys will be marrying trees. Before long you will start to see people marrying stars and other astronomical bodies. Where does it stop, people!

As for how any of this harms or threatens me or any other person who chooses not to partake, I will have you know some of us folks have such delicate sensibilities that we might have a heart attack or aneurysm if we see someone engaging in activity that is against our particular set of moral values.

Clearly the answer to this problem is the same as every other semi-difficult issue... get the government involved, and have them threaten violence against everybody who does something differently than how I'd like it done. That's the new American way, after all.

Our entire legal system is loosely based on the 10 Commandments.

A little off topic, but the founders deserve a little more credit here. They had a wealth of western moral and political philosophy to draw upon. Were only our current politicians as well read. Here's a lengthy list that only scratches the surface of what Jefferson, for example, would have been familiar with:

Plato, Aristotle, Zeno, Cicero, Seneca, Plotinus, Augustine, Abelard, Bacon Aquinas, Ockham, Machiavelli, Moore, Descartes, Calvin, Hobbes, Pascal, Spinoza, Locke, Hume.

That's over 1000 years of thought, and the Founders were also fortunate enough to be contemporaries of other great thinkers, like: Smith, Burke, Kant and Bentham.
