Been has got to be trolling - how can you NOT know what okra is, living here in Oklahoma? Granted this isn't the Deep South, but the stuff is still everywhere!

My wife likes to batter and fry the small okra pods whole. The ones about two to three inches long. I am sure that is not what the thread is about but they are good that way and it is easier to dip them in ranch dressing if they are whole.

These are fried, but not battered. And they are whole. It's gotta be done with some kind of really, really hot flash-frying because they crisp all the way through and not greasy at all. I'm wondering if you could dehydrate them and then fry the dehydrated pods ... but I dunno ... I'm definitely gonna have to do some experimenting because the damn things are like crack ... :D

Are you telling me you've never had beans and cornbread with fried okra?
I can't say I've ever had beans and cornbread with fried okra. I usually have fried potatoes and macaroni and cheese with my beans and cornbread.

I'm pretty sure that having chicken fried steak without fried okra is a mortal sin, though. It might even be a jailable offense in Oklahoma.
