I want to know what the gel they used was calibrated to. That seemed like a LONG way for that base "slug" to travel at 9mm velocities after the round displaced energy when getting rid of the "fingers". Then it still traveled all the way through that one block and bounced around outside it.

If they still did that in spec gel, then i don't think i'd want to carry them out in public, because if something happened and you did use your weapon and part of that round got loose and hit a bystander, you'd get cooked in court.

Now, home defense might be another story.

Dunno....i just have to wait and see more testing, etc.

Years ago, I read a story by Ayoob on carrying for self protection. One of the things he recommended was to stay away from firearms with "scary" names for liability purposes (the judge, equalizer, etc). If you ever had to use it, even in a justified shoot, a defense attorney or a civil attorney will tear you up in front of a jury. He recommended carrying the same loads used by the FBI, local pd, etc to be able to say they weapon/ammo has been tested to be the best for public carry.

He said he has been an expert witness in too many cases where the name of the ammo/weapon was used to try to make the person look like a vigilante. Look at the Zimmerman case as a perfect example of how every little detail will be scrutinized. Don't give them any extra thing to use against you....

A+ to the marketing department, they will be bailing money after the media gets ahold of the video. Being a backwoods Neanderthal Okie, I'll stick to quality 230gr. defensive ammo.

My take on the matter is more of the opposite, I am skeptical of the penetration claims. If you take a look at a 77 grain MK262 loading, you see this projectile sheds its jacket into a bunch of little pieces and the remaining mass penetrates about 12-13". It creates a massive wound channel in ballistic gel, but its performance on barriers is poor. It's similar in concept to this round in its fragmentation. I am skeptical that a pistol projectile with a mass of only 96 grains can shed that mass into multiple fragments and penetrate 16+ inches. A solid copper, non fragmenting 55 grain Barnes bullet will penetrate just over 16" in calibrated ballistic gel. I am not saying its impossible, but I just want to see some independent testing before I will buy the hype. The released marketing videos are impressive.

You guys are on the right path, along with some others. What we do know is that gel block was for show. None of the accepted, calibrated gels are clear to my knowledge, but they do make a pretty video. We have all seen plenty of the light, hyper velocity rounds touted as the next be-all end-all bullet. So far, every one I have looked at failed to measure up to a good bonded hollow point in terms of penetration.

It has been a clinical example of viral marketing. People love their youtubes.

That was my first thought too, all the stuff I used to read by Ayoob. Same thing with handloads.

"Ladies and gentleman of the jury, regular off the shelf ammo wasn't deadly enough for this scumbag. No he had to custom build a super lethal round to inflict as much destruction as possible."

Think I'll stick with the more common stuff myself.

Geeze.

Call me a skeptic, but I'm not impressed.

Perhaps time will tell.

But on gunbroker those are going for $10 a round.

Are you kidding me? When did gun owners lose their damn mind.
