What do you think? She likes the 410 option. She'd get the Public Defender version.

Take her out and let her shoot one at close range and see how many shots she can make on target in quick succession. Personally, I think that's one of the worst platforms out there for CCW, now nightstand or truck.... as others have mentioned.... would be different.

If it's what she wants, then let her try it out and make the decision for herself.
If she likes it and would actually carry it, then yeah it's a great option. If she doesn't like it then keep shopping.

Make sure you use rounds designed for it, regular 410 buck shot will not due. I shot regular through my Dad's and at 7 yards, did not even hit the paper.

Sooner made me a good deal on a S&W Governor. .45 Colt. .410 & with moon clips .45 auto. It's pretty good with the laser grip.

Of course it sank first in the boating accident.

I had one... a 2.5" short barreled model, which I used 3-pellet 00 buck in. While it was a cool novelty, it isn't what I'd want for self defense. As others have said, the spread is extreme. This makes shot placement difficult. Sure you have a high chance of hitting the bad guy somewhere, but it is pretty difficult to control where, and range is extremely limited. It is easier and quicker for me to rapidly put rounds in a pie plate sized group center mass wih a 9mm or .40 auto.

As d.hoddy and mr.glock have said, the purpose designed ammo makes it a viable choice. And like robar mentioned, let her shoot one. But if you do, use that purpose built ammo. My guess is it recoils different than light bird shot will.

I picked up a S&W Governor to use for car SD when traveling in some of the shadier cities I visit. I have no doubt it would deter any carjacker, even with birdshot it's pretty devastating at close range.

No way I would pick one. First off the Taurus Judge is the most commonly returned gun due to quality issues from what I've been told by the people working at a few different gun stores. Second thing is, assuming it works, you may shoot the bad guy but you also have to account for all those pellets (if using the .410) which isn't a big deal if every shoot situation is up close and personal but after that you have to contend with the expanded pattern and as Mas Ayoob says every bullet or pellet has a lawyer attached to it and you are responsible for each one. Thirdly, they are huge and unwieldy and just plain cheap.

I think they would make a good trail gun, although I would choose a S&W since it can also shoot .45acp and is widely accepted as being the best quality, by far, between the two. As a carry gun I would say it's completely impractical. However, to each their own, it would definitely stop a bad guy.
