I was channel surfing this afternoon and happened onto "Blue Steel," already well along. The bad guy, Ron Silver, was loading a Smith 29 with flat tipped lead rounds. Then there was a closeup of the cylinder, and the primers were very clearly already fired.

This may not be the worst of all time in terms of movie gun gaffes, but it is certainly a contender.

Later, Jamie Lee Curtis takes a revolver from a fellow officer, checks the cylinder, and it appears to have unfired primers, so they did not do it consistently.

Do you have favorite gun gaffes in movies and TV? There are many to pick from.

Too many to list. But the worst are the mystery gun switches. Like when someone is holding first gen smith semi auto and the camera angle changes and they are holding a 1911. You think actors could at least pick up the same gun every time.

Modern CVA and Thompson Centers in the Movie "The Mountain Men" with Heston. And all the stainless steel colts in the "quick and the dead". I kinda think one was a Ruger Vaquero but ain't sure.

In one of the Matrix movies where Neo fights a bunch of Mr. Andersons along with Trinity, one of them is firing two Vz-61 Skorpions, and when the "bullet time" affect comes into play, you see the casings fall all slowly...except the casings are for a rifle caliber (5.56/7.62) and the Skorpion fires the diminutive 32 ACP.

In From Paris With Love, John Travolta gives Jonathan Rhys Meyers a .357 revolver of some kind. They're later in a warehouse during a shootout and every time he fires a round from the revolver, a spent shell is heard dropping like it was fired from a pistol!
I can't believe someone was so ignorant about guns, they actually went through the post editing trouble of dubbing an empty case noise into that scene.
Of course earlier in the movie they blow up his new model "Escalade" but you can clearly see during the explosion scene that they swapped it for a 90's model suburban. Hollywood....

Three of the ones that bug me the most that you see in TV shows and movies.

3. Someone is handed a pistol someone else was carrying, they cycle the slide and no round comes out. It even happens when they pick up a gun from someone that was just shooting at them.

2. Semi auto pistols that go click, click, click when empty. Even if the slide doesn't lock open, most pistols won't click more than once.

1. And number one is striker fired pistols that make a cocking noise when pointed at someone.
