As an senior citizen, I still say the old FOOL, slowed down obstructing traffic on purpose. He swerved into the oncoming lane and struck the bike on purpose. He severely injured a young lady and he should be in jail. He stated, " I don't care! "

I hope she sues and takes everything the ******* has.

Nothing I have posted even remotely suggested all senior drivers were bad, nor or all bikers dangerous.

My posts have been directed at the parties involved and no generalities about a specific group.

Any further posts, which may be none, will specify the bike, the injured lady, and the DUMB **** in the car.

People tend to generalize and categorize...

Old Man = Old people = always causing trouble

Bikers = careless = always causing trouble

But as you point out it changes when it becomes something that is more closely related to us...

Gun Owners = careless = always causing trouble...

I don't think people really think about it when they generalize like that, but it's back to the same issue that the behavior of a few tends to skew the opinion of the whole group.

FWIW I could be considered an "old man" too, but I didn't find the comments offensive.

There has been some comments on this thread that point out the old guy, and how old guys don't care, and how old guys can't drive, and how old guys blah, blah, blah.

I'd guess If we translated old guy into black guy, or Muslim guy we would have an uproar of politically correct posters that would say WTF would doing this have to do with his age?

Would any of the "old guy" posters like to present some facts about driving records that blacks and Muslims have in road rage incidents?

This forum would sure like to hear and see them.

He's 68 y/o. He's a hazard to other drivers.

People age radically different. My grandpa will be 90 next year and most people think he's in his 60s.

On the other end of the spectrum I was almost killed when a senile 67 year old woman (double whammmy...old and a woman) thought a giant red stop sign was a Christmas decoration in July or something and drove into the 65mph highway traffic at a right angle at 50mph. I happened to be the one to take the hit. Ouch. Bad day.

Don't statistics show old people are more likely to have an at-fault accident than middle-aged folks?

Which statistics? People who still drive to work daily have higher car insurance rates with my company than an older retired person who drives the same number of miles.

As with gun owners, when you get headlines with an older person acting badly on the highway, there is an immediate flood of misinformation and a rush to blame the entire age category.

People who keep getting tickets are a real danger category and deserve evaluation regardless of age. I got rear ended by a 39 year old who had a rotten driving record and could not afford to have insurance on his own car, but ran into me sitting at a stoplight while he was driving to work in his girlfriend's car. Under OK law, his girlfriend's car insurance then went sky high for his blatantly negligent wreck.
MY question: Why did he still have a driver's license?

You're comparing private vs commercial. Apples vs Oranges. Several other factors come into play with commercial.

Y'all are kidding yourselves, over time you can't argue that generally, with age, your driving skills degrade.

I'm NOT talking about commercial licenses, I'm talking about ordinary people who just drive to work. They have more wrecks as a group than retired people, thus pay higher insurance rates.

For a given individual, the body does lose the raw animal reflexes and strength with advancing age, and a cautious person is aware of that and exercises good safety. However, there is MUCH more difference between individuals than there is between age groups. The youngest drivers, with the best physical reflexes of their life still are BY FAR the highest chargeable accident group; some individuals often attempt beyond their ability and act stupidly. Of those that do, some remain dangerous drivers for life. A good young driver should be the best driver on the road, and some are.

FAA DOES require strict testing of physical and mental ability for pilots, and some individuals maintain their pilot qualifications past 70, 80, and a few past 90. However, one fellow here in Altus had his pilot's license permanently revoked in his 40s.

A key point in the original article in this thread is that the driver DELIBERATELY CAUSED A WRECK. He is EVIL, not impaired. He apparently has been evil a long time.
