This is a somewhat sensitive subject due to the aftermath we experienced from a disgruntled madman that blew up a federal building that very affected people I know and my hometown in general.

This led me to read up on everything I could about the Waco siege. I wish it could have been avoided and think things could have been handled different. Do you think it may have changed rules of engagement or do you believe the Gov handled everything properly.

What's y'all's opinion?

I think the Government should have been more willing to talk them out of it.

Their 'siege' did more harm than good in the end. It was a cult that needed dismantled, absolutely. But it's sort of like the Jonestown thing, you have to handle these things real careful. I think with better negotiating skills, planning and preparation this whole thing could have been avoided. They knew the FBI was on to them, they let the FBI agent that was spying on them walk out, after they outed them. The FBI should have taken that opportunity to try to talk to them.

It was an incident that in my mind crystalized the inefficacy of the Federal government and the ATF. They resorted to brute force with no scruples or moderation. They took a situation that could have been handled by Sheriff Andy and Barney Fife and went in there and blew the whole place up and got a whole lot of people killed. This was a disaster, the government was incompetent and they're to blame for the whole situation.

The ATF leader at the time(Janet Reno) pretty much made a whole bunch of BS up about other militia members coming to their aid, so they had to go in and end the siege immediately. They also blasted music and lights into their houses at all hours to keep them up and agitated. They tried before they even began their ill-fated first raid to get the army to loan them tanks and APCs. So they were intent on going in violent from the get go and had no intention of negotiating in good faith.

You know, i met a guy who was once a window washer at that building in OKC, and only survived the explosion by 30 minutes. Crazy stuff.

Personally I think that they could've arrested the cult leader at wal mart and I also concede that he could've turned himself in maybe sparing the lives of his followers but I don't think that's what the gov was looking for. As far as the madman that blew up the federal building in okc, if one thinks that the current narrative is the truth then you are blind.

What's the truth, then?

I agree about the Murrah. Not blind, just another whole can of worms I didn't want to open but is welcome in the discussion.

The ATF was after them for gun dealing. Probably it was the undercover agent doing most of it. Kind of like the ATF involvement in Fast & Furious.
They wanted no survivors to tell the facts.
