i have an echo srm 260 that was running poorly it sounded half throttle at full throttle, I thought it may be the carb so I bought a replacement and still had that problem. I decided to run it for a bit and after a while it throttled up like normal and died. Now when I pull it it the compression feels weak. Is this come thing worth trying to fix a ring will be $6 or a piston kit is around $60 both of those options sound better opposed to the $300 for a new trimmer.

I bought a Dewalt electric, no more gas or carb issues.. They make two models, the one I bought was the 40 volt model because it uses the same batteries as my other Dewalt tools. They make an 80 volt version that is an animal and will do anything a gas trimmer will.

I don't have that much that needs it, 6 tree rings and around the storm shelter. The battery will let me do everything twice before it needs charged.

Check the muffler, I had a friend that took his to a shop and they never could find the problem as to why it was running so poorly.
He cleaned out the crud from the muff and it ran like new.

I had a similar problem on an older unit I had, replaced the carb also that did not fix the half power problem. Finally removed the muffler and burned a propane torch into it for about 20 minutes. When it stopped smoking and cooled down I re-installed it and it ran like a new unit.

It was not getting enough airflow through the muffler after years of 2 stroke oil stopping it up. Some models have a removable baffle you can clean. Might be worth a try. Good luck to you.

The in-tank filter has a filter inside at the end of the internal pickup tube. After I replaced mine problem returned, just like yours. Pulled the filter apart and knocked out that little 'screen' and have not had any issues since. Been a rear or more now. Model 225. Filters are cheap.

Ignition could fixed her up, now my front yard doesn't look like there's a broke down 3rd gen camaro in it. Any one know where I could find a new ignition coil for an echo in okc before I try eBay?
