Has anyone else here ever owned a Blue Tick Hound? I have a puppy almost 7 months old and he looks like he's going to be enormous. I thought they were maybe 80 lbs on the high side

I was raised with Blue ticks!!! I have seen many a picture of my dad holding me in one arm(as a small baby) with a .22 rifle in the other, a wheat light-miner helmet light, with a pack of Blue Ticks.

Your dog could be a variant of Blue Tick...do you have papers on him/her?

My dad had some buddies in Alabama that had "large" Blue Ticks..... Grand Bleu or Bleu Gascogne.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Bleu_de_Gascogne

The Grand Bleu de Gascogne is a very large dog weighing 80-120 lbs.

The guys in Alabama had MONSTER size dogs...not sure on that bloodline...but they were Grand Bleu.

We had a sick Blue Tick puppy just a few days old....it's bloodline was to good to give up on...so we gave it goat's milk.

HOLY CRAP....that dog grew almost double the size of it's family....goat milk was like steroids to that dog.

***I wish I still had a pack of Blue Ticks*** I was raised in a family of Blue Ticks or NOTHIN'!!!!

Being a city-fied person I can't own any hounds in the addition we live in....my neighbors would poop their pants if they heard a bawl or chop coming out of a hounds mouth....then the HOA would be on my a**.

Yep- this ol' country boy-now an urban cowboy.....misses the drop of a tailgate and listening to the sound of them trailing/running then treeing.

My dad had a good buddy in Arkansas or was it Southern Missouri named Elbert Vaughn...was an excellent breeder back a few years ago. Then we had some of Dave Dean's dogs waaay back in the 70's and 80's...was it Hammer bloodline??

Sorry for my rambling.....LOVE your dog for all he's/she's worth.....hunting or not. They're an awesome dog.

This little monster came from a breeder in South Carolina, and he may just be a big monster he's been a great dog so far, if I find a solid female I may breed them in the future

He's BEAUTIFUL! And he's gonna be enormous. He's still got one ... maybe two ... more growth spurts in front of him. Most breeds (not counting those yappy little purse puppies) don't stop growing until somewhere between 12-18 months, though it does slow down a bit at 12 months.
