I had a 5 inch Kimber Warrior which was an accurate and reliable pistol. I also had a 4 inch Kimber that was not reliable enough to even judge its accuracy. If I were looking for a .45 ACP in the $1000 range, I would buy the HK 45C. Unlike the Kimber, this is no question about the HK's reliability. On 1911's, there are far more knowledgeable guys than me....

@steelfingers - As you know i shoot a kimber on the Bullseye circuit, it is a wonderful gun and to me the most reliable and accurate gun I own. Having said that, there is little to zero advantage of a Custom II over any other production class 1911. If you step into the partial custom or full custom range, then maybe. The misnomer of hand tuned slides to frames with NM barrels and bushings is just that, these are standard production guns with a QC tweek here and there if caught, just my honest opine. Along the same lines and for the same money the Springer RO full size is, again just my opinion, the best range toy for a 1911 that is not custom. The SS versions are beautiful and as accurate as any semi custom 1911 out there. There are a million views on 1911s, but that is a pretty common belief. I am in no way knocking Kimber, I love mine and shoot it alot, but my smith had many hours with it to make it run as it does. If you look at the Gold Match II for about $1150 I think, you will find love and happiness. Good luck my friend!!!

I really like mine. It's just a Custom II, but I carry it a lot and it has been 100% reliable thus far. I used it in the IDPA match last Saturday and it did really well. Very accurate too. I might use it to drop a deer this season if the chance presents itself. Here is a pic of the groups from it with three different loads at 25 yards. I'd say go for it.

I am a fan of the Springfield. My ROO is a great gun. Thanks for the feedback.

It's hard to make a decision when there's a few great choices. If anyone got a great deal on one, let me know.
I guess I'm on the hunt. Just don't want to have to pimp myself out to get what I want. Who'd pay anyway.......? Ha!

I have a Kimber Stainless Target II with a Dawson magwell, and a reduced recoil spring to handle the reloads for USPSA matches.
Used to shoot it in Limited 10,but graduated to Limited division.
I love to shoot it. Love to hand it to someone shooting a 9MM to shoot. The recoil impulse is so much smoother than the snappy 9's, and .40's.
It's my wife's favorite gun to shoot even though she has her own 9mm Sig P938. Danged accurate with it she is.

There are better choices, IMHO. But 1911's are like anything else, everyone has their own opinion. What is your price range, would be a great help.

Jimmy's right. Kind of anyway. What do you place the most importance on? Reliability? Looks? Accuracy? Range toy or competition or carry or home defense? Lots to consider. Me; if I was going to drop coin on a full size all steel 1911, I'd sure look hard at the Springfield RO or the Colt Competition Model or the Ruger SR1911 or maybe step up to the Dan Wesson's or the Les Baers. I'd sure look at the Kimbers if a pretty gun was the top thing on my list. But in my view, the best overall 1911 on the market today for the money is the Ruger SR1911.
