It’s Official: America Suddenly Isn’t Comfortable With LGBT People

The theory that LGBT acceptance in America will only ever increase over time is a reassuring one. The only problem is that it may not be true.

A new survey commissioned by the LGBT media advocacy group GLAAD and conducted by The Harris Poll found that fewer non-LGBT adults reported being comfortable with their LGBT peers than in previous years.

This marks the first time in the four-year history of the Accelerating Acceptance report that GLAAD has witnessed a decline in LGBT acceptance.

“This year, the acceptance pendulum abruptly stopped and swung in the opposite direction,” GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis wrote in the 2018 report, noting the sharp contrast between this year’s results and the last three years of watching Americans report being “more comfortable with LGBTQ people and more supportive of LGBTQ issues.”

The annual GLAAD survey asks non-LGBT Americans to describe how comfortable they are in several scenarios involving LGBT people, like learning that a doctor is LGBT, witnessing a same-sex couple holding hands, or worshipping alongside and LGBT person at church.

This year’s version, conducted in November 2017, found “a decline with people’s comfort year-over-year,” not just in a few of the scenarios, but “in every LGBTQ situation.”

For example, in 2016, twenty-seven percent of non-LGBT Americans said that they would be “very” or “somewhat” uncomfortable with learning that a family member is LGBT; in 2017, that figure jumped all the way up to 32 percent.

This is what happens when you aren't content with "just" being accepted by society and instead decide you want to "flaunt" yourself. People DO judge entire groups by the actions of the most vocal (and usually the most *******-ish) members of said groups. It is unfortunate, but true. For example, look at how you guys feel about little old ladies.:bolt:

We love "little ol' ladies!" Especially if they look good in a teddy nighty, have a weak heart, and have a large bank account. :rubhands:

Lmao!! Ok, I'm just gonna say I have trouble imagining ANY little old lady who looks good in a teddy. Well, maybe, if she has had a lot of "body work" done. But damn, man, some of those gals make me jump back. Lol I don't care WHAT the plastic surgeon told them that is NOT a good look up close -- like inside 500 yards. Lol There is something to be said for growing old gracefully.

If someone wants to be gay then more power to them. I don’t agree with it and I don’t accept it but I don’t treat people bad for it. These people need to just be happy that they are able to live in a free country and stop trying to shov the crap down all our throats. They don’t want us Christians shoving our beliefs down their throats so they don’t need to do it to us.

I don't GAF is someone L.G.T.B. or Q.... to each his/her own. However, I do find it irritating that acceptance isn't sufficient and that I'm apparently LGBTQ phobic if I don't celebrate their "uniqueness."

Also, I would have thought someone would have pointed out that TonyKane1 used a phrase with "shove" "down" and "throats"...... there's joke in there somewhere.
