I stopped by our EZ Pawn yesterday to kill some time and look at what guns they had( have on a occasion found a good deal) and while looking a guy came in to check on his background check to see if it had went thru and the girl behind the counter said the system was down and no way to check the status of it and from what i could over hear he had already been in several time to check and come to find out he made the purchase the 24th of last month and they have yet to get a proceed and i mentioned that it was my understanding that after 3 business days he is allowed to get his gun and leave. the girl said NO he cant company policy is that they cant release a firearm til they get a proceed no matter what the law is or how long it takes.
So even thou i have never had a problem with my background checks im not going to be doing business with these folks again, just in case something does throw a kink in the system.

If im wrong in my understanding please let me know. Im one that doesnt mind being corrected.

Rant over.

The pawn shop is not required to release the gun after 3 days. They can choose to. Big difference.

In this day and age, I can completely understand a company protecting their financial livelihood by waiting for a "proceed" from the system.

EZ pawn (at least the one near me) also will not remove their trigger lock when you're looking at a gun. Its not enough for me to boycott them though; I've gotten some pretty amazing deals there.

I've bought a few guns from the EZ Pawn in Stillwater when I saw some good deals. The old gun guy isn't working there anymore, but they still take the trigger lock off if you ask them so you can inspect it. Never had a problem with EZ Pawn here. Only time they gypped me was when I asked if the SKS I was buying had a factory 10 round mag since it looked unusual, they said yes but it turned out to be a detachable 5 round one. Still bought it anyway $200 something out the door, no extras though.

It is my understanding that Academy will also not release a gun until they get a PROCEED. I don't necessarily like it, but I do understand why some businesses feel it is in their best interest to be cautious these days. Imagine if they let a fella have his AR after the 3 days of waiting on NICS was up without a PROCEED and he turns out to be a nutjob and goes on a rampage.

Anyone ever had their NICS check go on that long? My first gun I bought came back delayed but got approved just as I was about to head back to the car. Scared the crap outta me... Guy at the counter said it was because I'm originally from California and my last name.
