I will be the proud owner of an Inland M2 30 Carbine (machine gun) sometime in January. I have been working on loading rounds so I will be ready to have some fun when it comes in.

Currently, I have been using an RCBS Universal Case Prep Center. I have had it less than a year and have had to replace switches and transformers multiple times. The warranty is only good for two years...

I have looked at a Giraud Power Case Trimmer. It is super fast to trim necked cartridges, but the 30 Carbine has no neck. There is a way to use this trimmer, but, to do so, it would take be 25 to 30 seconds per cartridge.

My joints are too bad for manual trimming.

Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Don

Straight walled cases have never needed resizing in my experience of reloading since the 80's. I average several thousands of rounds a year in pistol cases. Rifle cases should not be any different as there is not a shoulder to stretch the neck?

I had only ever reloaded handgun cartridges and have never had an issue. However, these carbine cases grow several thousandths each time they are fired. This presents problems because it head spaces off the mouth of the case. I have an M1 30 Carbine presently and find I can only shoot cases about two times before they need to be sized.

I learn something every day from this forum. That's why I added the caveat about not knowing about rifle cases. I have a RCBS motorized case trimmer that works really well that has been modified by me using pneumatic cylinders and foot switch to speed up the process. If your into making something like that, I'd post some pics.

If you really want to do it quickly Its not cheap. A dillon XL650 with a RL1200 or RL1500 trimmer would be super quick. 30 Carbine is a bastard so you'd have to get a short toolhead and a custom die from CH4D or Brads warehouse. You would size and trim with the pull of the handle.

How many cases are you wanting to do?

For length trimming it's hard to beat the lee quick trim dies and a cheap drill. Put the case in the press and run it up into the die. Squeeze the drill trigger and count to three. Done. Sized and chamfered in one step. Works best on a single stage press but I love it. I am not processing thousands of cases a day but i have been happy with it.

http://fsreloading.com/lee-precison-deluxe-power-quick-trim.html 20 bucks

https://fsreloading.com/lee-quick-trim/lee-precision-quick-trim-die-30-m1-carbine.html 10 bucks

I use the same system to trim 300blk cases that are cut down from 223. and I just count to three with the drill in low speed and full pull on the trigger. Tomorrow when I get up I will get a before and after trim on one posted as an example.

I bought a Dillon XL650 primarily to reload the 30 Carbine. However, Dillon maintains that their trimmers and toolheads can't do the 30 Carbine.

I'm not sure what CH4D is...

Thanks!

I certainly appreciate the offer. However I have never been mechanically inclined! I felt my anxiety rise as soon as I read "pneumatic!" [emoji6]
