I haven’t locked up machine since the old days. I couldn’t even guard my winnings. Silver dollar jingling all over the floor. Elderly folks were scrambling around with buckets like they were loading a tuna boat.

I worked surveillance for a little while and watched a few regulars hit jackpots pretty often on the high stakes machines. Sometimes they would hit two or three times a night.I like to play the 3 reel machines once in awhile and a good margarita. What I don't like is the smoke, the tweakers, the peekers, and those who are treading water in the shallow end of the gene pool who are wasting valuable oxygen that others could be breathing. So setting in a casino for an extended period of time is not something I want to do. When I have some extra cash and feel like gambling I'll go to one of the high stakes machines, usually a $5, $10 or $25 machine, hit the max bet button and get on with it. If it hits its a good one and I cash out and hit the door. If it doesn't I'm done and out of there in 15 minutes at the most. The last 2 times it took longer to fill out the paperwork after jackpotting the machine than the actual playing time.

One time a guy hit a second jackpot before the slot manager could make the walk to the cashier after verifying his first jackpot. IIRC those two added up to nearly $80,000.
I saw people hitting $40K-$50K jackpots many times.
It seemed like they did quite well as long as they were willing to keep feeding those machines one hundred dollar bills.
I often wondered what it cost them to hit those big payoffs.

I have often thought the same thing. I have a set dollar amount that I’m willing to gamble and only take that into the casino. No credit cards or extra cash. I have witnessed people jackpot a machine for a large amount of money and then set there and feed every bit of it back in and leave broke. Anytime a machine gives me double what I put in it I’m headed to the parking lot right then and there.
