Yes. Probably not as complicated as using a giant lens from a projection tv, but it still makes clean H2O from vegetation and crappy H2O.
It also takes forever and contaminates my water with micro-plastic.

I want to take it a step further and see how big of a lens I would need to boil a sufficient amount of water to run a small steam engine while also distilling water. I imagine there'd be some contamination there, but we'll see, I'm not an engineer, just a nerd.

EDIT: Have confirmed, a steam engine will take a much larger lens than I can get.

Well, the purpose of a solar still, or an evaporation still is to provide enough h2o to survive long enough to procure it through some other source. The goal is to keep you from becoming a raisin. If I'm turning into a potato chip, my last concern is micro-plastic contamination that may or may not be an issue.
If you were using the lens to boil the h20 for evaporation, you could have built a fire and done it quicker.

Since we are in OK, I'm not too concerned about not finding h2o...but I do travel via truck all over including NM and AZ, so.

Perhaps I could repurpose the still to be small enough to pack? It could be built at a reasonable size to keep in a vehicle. Just a tad too large for backpacking.
