Synthetic vs Conventional oil

I changed my oil very often in my Honda V65 Magna sometimes after a night of racing.
12,200 rpm was the sweet spot. Yea it was not stock.
I beat the snot out of it and almost every male friend I let ride it ended up on the ground.
It sent 2 to the hospital the original owner spent 6 months there and one buddy of mine only spent 3 days.
It was a fun bike while it lasted. Loved the wheelies

Heard they have taken the zinc out of the diesel oils now don't know if that's true or not. I run Valvoline 15w40 blue in my Cummins.

They've been forced to take almost all ZDDP out of engine oils because it degrades catalytic converters. There's still some in there but it's a tiny fraction of what they used to use.

I run Amsoil Signature Series or XL Series depending on how many miles the vehicle will get driven in a year. I change oil once a year. Been doing this for years.

If I couldn't get Amsoil I'd use Pennzoil Platinum Ultra since some of the testing I've seen was close to Amsoil.

I've ran a car 68k miles in one year and changed the oil 4 times that year (technically 3.something times since the 4th change was at the 1 year point). It lasted another 175k after that point. In this pic the car has almost 200k miles. Notice how clean totally sludge free it is? That's Amsoil at 1 year oil change intervals. Probably around 15-20k a year at that point in time.

Driving from my house in Moore to various courthouses daily. That 68k year was all western Oklahoma with trips to Guymon. I'd drive up Monday and home Friday. I usually stayed in Liberal, KS because the hotels were all perpetually booked in Guymon at that time. When I started in this business I was going to Washita county every day. I paid for that Monte Carlo SS several times over in mileage I billed.

Most oils today are far better than what was produced and sold even 10 years ago. That being said, the new oils are a big component of increased fuel economy and that’s what they’re designed for.

Toyota recommends a synthetic oil change every 10,000 miles for my 4-Runner. I ran the oil 10,000 miles one time in my first 4-Runner. There was a noticeable difference in the noise coming from the engine after about 7500 miles.

I change it between 5000 and 6000 miles now. It runs like a champ and gets about the same fuel economy it has since break in. A good synthetic is worth the difference in price. I can’t bring myself to run any oil out to 10K. Just can’t do it.

I worked at FAA for FKW at the time which was a contractor out there and lived in Spencer.
5 years of that drive and I would take the pager on weekends for fix it calls and many times i would work 2 and 3 shifts.
Feed me and I can stay awake and work for ever back then.

Wife went to the Spencer public schools and talked with the teachers and staff to see what kind of place it would be for our 5 year old.
No ac in many rooms and the teachers did not even want to talk with her just cold shouldered her.

F them.
So she used her dads address and drove them to Yukon.
We ended up buying a house in the same neighborhood as her dad just 1 street over.

Of course some weekends when I did not have the pager I would hit the lock 16 in Gore and drift the river for catfish.

She had driven 67,000 miles in 11 months and I quit counting as I knew she had me beat on miles driven.
I drove a 78 Nova mostly and she had a Ford escort.
Sometimes she drove the Nova to crest just looking to get into a race with someone.
Other cars we drove but not as much maybe 12-15K a year
1977 Indy pace. Look that one up. Not stock.
1981 280ZX with Not stock 240Z engine.
1978 Skylark 2 door. stock.
1980 Pinto. Not stock.
1982 Mustang not stock.

78 ford 3/4 ton Not stock.
1987 V45 Honda super Magna. Stock
1985 V65 Honda Magna Not stock.
The V65 ran 11.51 in the 1/4 with my 200lb butt on it.
My Nova would out run it. Fun times.

Looks like I tweaked most of my vehicles.

I am glad I thinned the herd a little bit . All that auto insurance is a killer.

I've been a Valvoline fan boy for many years. Never had an engine failure. The Tacoma made 365K miles with zero issues. It's still on the road today with its new owner with well over 400,000 miles.
My Tacoma after that ran Valvoline synthetic but it got sold early as we upgraded our RV to a heavier unit and needed an F-250. After the factory break in oil was done, it's going to spend the rest of it's life with the Valvoline.
All of my small engines run the same brand in different weights.

I ran Havoline before I went synthetic and never had any issues related to oil.
