From what I understand the American movements are far more collectable than the Swiss movements. Most pocket watch backs come off fairly easily and scratch free with a watch knife.you are kidding; right - ain't happening.![]()
Thanks for the shout outs everyone. @dlbleak, I can probably service the watch, but the case is a 'maybe'. It is hard to tell from the photos, but can you confirm if the case is plated or stainless steel? I haven't gotten into electroplating yet, so I'd have to pass on any case work if it is plated. I'm just not set up for it. Oddly enough, it's really cheap to get into, although the learning curve is steep (I've read), but it's one of the few things I've been putting off, lol. An inspection of the quartz movement in that watch would tell us if corrosion has gotten the better of it over the years, or if it can be rebuilt. Most of the time, it is more cost efficient to just replace the entire movement. I can't say for sure what it would cost in that watch without identifying the quartz movement currently in it, but most of them can be found pretty inexpensively. I recently sourced a higher end quartz movement for a Tag Heuer watch owned by another OSA'er and we were able to get a factory new replacement shipped for around $70. Many times it is cheaper than that, then the only additional costs are labor, gaskets, crystal (if needed), etc. If you'd like to meet up one of these days, I'll be happy to take a look at it. I have several watches still in front of me, and a request from another OSA'er to look at a few more of theirs, but I'm trying to get through some of my current workload at the moment. If you want to go another route, by all means please feel free to do so. You can send me a PM to discuss further if you'd like. Thanks!
Not 100% sure on this, there is an eBay seller in India who rebuilds these. I have an Oris one, have not popped open the back to see if it is an Oris Movement. I like the dial, strong 1970's vibe... I will dig mine out in a couple of days, perhaps I will check the movement...So I picked up a vintage Roamer. I’m trying to figure out which model it is. Any info is appreciated

I don’t have it yet. The seller is out of Washington state and it was serviced. Probably going to get a nice NATO for it.
