I've used a shoulder bag kinda like that in the OP to carry stuff I didn't want in my pockets when out on a walk. Works just fine.

I carry a Maxpedition sling pack in my truck as a kind of “get home” bag, but there’s no way in hell I’m wearing a fanny pack. My sling pack is never carried around but stays in whatever truck I’m driving each day, and it’s how a carry my back up handgun, extra ammo, a small first aid kit, a few ”survival” items, and an old bank bag with some extra cash and personal documents.

You are aware those powdered wigs were cause of lice more than fashion. People used to go crazy and bath once a month also hence the need for a vinaigrette box to carry in your pocket so the bo stench didnt become overwhelming too.

I do not carry a vinaigrette box cause I bath and use deodorant .

Making the argument our ancestors did it for certain practical reasons doesn't make it equivalent today. Were people still toting flintlock rifles and a brace of pistols yep a possibilities bag would be a requirement . Glock 17 and the Sig P226 don't use priming powder or loose ball though last i checked.
