If he is close STW, he should try Horizon Drilling. They have rigs all over the place and are growing pretty fast.

The main caveat I would put out there on drill rigs is that 90% of the roughnecks are deep into the meth, bath salts, etc. It might not be a good idea for him to get mixed in with those types again.

I don't know what rigs you have been on, but many drillers and tool men won't put up with that **** one bit. If you find a driller or tool man that is a user, move on to another rig, the number of doped up roughnecks are a lot lower than 90%. Especially on company owned rigs.

Get him into the elctrical trade . There are alot of felons in this trade . So many that when asked if I was a felon and replied no it was followed up with a what are you doing working here then?

That's crazy, I know 3 ex cons that are in the electrical trade, 2 work for themselves and the other in a foreman for a company. They all do very well, but it took them a few years to get their license.

If I were your relative with his record I would head to North Dakota. You said he has oil field experience and that IS the place to be. I understand the whole oil companies hiring felons and the intense safety concerns. However, I would be hitting up every company in ND and being honest and upfront and beg for a chance doing the grunt work. Beg for a 3-6 month "trial" period. Whatever it takes! That area can bring some real good pay even for the grunt/crap jobs.

I've been reading about this area, Tx, and the Gulf Coast. All good info. Thanks.
