Because Veterans Day, like Labor day, memorial day, and a few others got put in the same class as Valentines Day.

People, mainly businesses and owners don't give 2 shats about sacrifice or honor or remembrance. It's about the almighty dollar

Holidays have become a Comercial success.

This^^^Always blame big business or Sam Walmart. I want my holidays back!:lookaroun

I am a 3rd generation veteran and have like most of you worked many veterans days. yes I agree it should be the day that vets get to take a break. But I chose to become a veteran by the life I chose and like many others that choose that path do so because we have a sense of service. Many times i find myself more comfortable serving others than thinking of myself. In all my years of service i never complained about working holidays or the times deployed away from my family i just always knew there was a greater cause. I am thankful for all the restaurants and businesses that take the time to honor our service. but it is not necessary or required. It makes me smile when i see others taking note of those still in uniform and that is thanks enough for me. Yes there are those that have never served that will get the day off to go sit in the deer stand or drink a beer, while many in uniform are required to be on duty. let us not forget the reasons we chose to serve, to protect the freedoms of this country so that the rest could continue to sit in the deer stands, drink a beer, own a gun, speak their minds, choose to live the way they want. For those of you working this veterans day thanks for your continued service.

I don't speak for all veterans but I didn't join for freedom or patriotic duty. I joined to make a buck. 3.35 a hour wasn't enough to live on.

And don't kid yourself about all them free meals to veterans. ...they aint honoring nobody but the other 5 ppl the vet brings with them. Vet eats free, other 5 pay full price.

Wanna honor a vet. Feed his family for free.....they sacrificed as much as the Vet.

Can't remember my grandpa's or any of their brothers feeling entitled to being honored... guess I inherited there views for my service. To each their own though.

I have to agree with this. For decades, I worked each and every Veteran's Day without even a recognition from others of the service. Moreover, I never worried about the recognition, but felt that I had a higher duty to provide for my family. Besides, for so many in this country, many holidays are more about doing other things rather than honor those that have served. How many pay more attention to the BBQ instead of Memorial Day and the reason for that holiday? Sadly, even some veterans do.

I guess I just don't have the sense that I'm entitled to anything. Do I appreciate someone recognizing my service? Yes, but there is much more that I wish they would recognize instead, such as helping out those in need.

I did convince my employer in college to give all veterans off paid. The apartment complex was part of a large company too. I think it last 3 years till I left. It took out the entire maintenance crew.
