Probably not...claws rarely show (but occasionally do.) They are beautiful creatures. Having lived several years in Colorado, and backpacked extensively into remote areas, I have had several sightings and a few close encounters with them. Once rifle hunting for deer I had my back to a 15' high cliff while sitting on stand. Heard something, looked up and one was directly above me. It didn't scream but I almost did. Fired one round in it's general direction and it disappeared. A friend and his wife were on a horseback trip in the Uncompahgre wilderness area and had three come into their camp one evening (maybe same one 3x.). They got no sleep that night, keeping a big campfire going. Later they discovered one of the horses had a slightly bleeding leg from a cut. I've seen a couple in LeFlore County about 60 years ago and one crossing I40 near Shawnee at about 2am about 25 years ago. Cougar and Elk are two of my favorite wild animals.
