Wonder if its previous life was a company truck. A lot of employers are using gps tracking device of some sort in company vehicles.
I once put a gps tracker on an employees staff car and it proved to be quite interesting where they were spending their day when they were supposed to be working. I hate lying thieves and lazy employees

Manufacturers are putting black boxes in some vehicles to monitor vehicle parameters. Insurance companies reportedly have access to these when your in an accident to help determine what actually happened. My bet is it was leftover from a tote the note place from the past unless you bought it from a place like that. Regardless of if you paid cash or not, some lots put those in all vehicles and they usually remove them but some slip through the cracks. The OBD2 wire tap is a popular spot because they have a hot all the time wire. The 2 wire hookup is simply for gps tracking only, nothing else. Depending on the tracking program, they can map routes, times, stops, speed, and can track vehicle in real-time or the last known signal (unplugged or hidden).
Most employer or helicopter parent ( haha ) type devices simply plug into the 16 pin OBD2 port. Similar to the ones insurance companies try to get you to use. Some can also monitor vehicle parameters, like throttle/brake usage, acceleration/deceleration rate, speed etc.
Yup that has been going on for a while. I thought I read an article years ago they certain places can subpoena that data if they have cause in an accident. To prove someone was lying about speed and hitting the breaks. Lots of data is recorded in new cars especially if you have lane assist or something like that. The wives 2016 Accord has Honda assist and it has radar and camera on it that car is almost 4 years old.Manufacturers are putting black boxes in some vehicles to monitor vehicle parameters. We started installing tracking systems on our vehicles after we had two of them stolen (both in California, imagine that).Wonder if its previous life was a company truck. A lot of employers are using gps tracking device of some sort in company vehicles.
