NICS is not free, you have to obtain a Federal Firearms License to access it and a FFL isn't free, but I don't understand charging a NICS fee. I know in some states like Pennsylvania and Illinois and probably California have a state background check system that the does cost the dealer per transaction.

Some places do it cheap as a courtesy, some guys want to make money on everything they do. I don't blame them , but I won't use them. Sooner state pawn does my transfers cheap. I thank them by buying from them every time they have something I need

Sooner State Pawn. $10 per transaction.

Anyone charging for transfer and NICS separately is a flat out crook.

I use SSP too; good people who will continue to get my business, whether it's a transfer or an in-store purchase.
