Most of the people that I hunt with use a 22-250 or 223 for coyotes. I use a 22-250 or my ar 15, depends on what mood I'm in. If I were you I'd stick with the 22-250. I don't know a lot about the 204 because I don't know anyone that uses that caliber. I prefer to shoot something that is the least affected by the wind, since it blows non stop round here.

I have a new Remy 700 VLS in 204. I just got some glass for it yesterday, mounted it this afternoon, but I don't think I will get to shoot it until next weekend. I have granddaughter duty by myself this weekend, and if there is one thing better than shooting it is grandkids!!

They are very close in ballistics, the 204 has the edge in speed, and is a little flatter. I think the top range of bullet weights is 50 grains. I am shooting 40 gr Vmax in mine when I make it out there. Plan on using it on pdogs, and 'yotes. I may take it squirrel hunting this year.... That may be challenging, I mounted a Millett 6x25x56 on it, with some Burris rings and base.

I made the move UP in caliber, not down. Wanted a heavier bullet with at least the same BC. The 6mm seems to 'deal' with the wind a little better with its' 80g.-85g. bullet. .204 is, most likely , fun to shoot but any wind would 'eat that light bullet up'. Speed ain't everything.

What edge the 204 Ruger might have in speed it loses in ballistic coefficient to the 22-250. Both would be effective on coyotes however. If I had to choose between a 204 Ruger, a 223 Remington and a 22-250 Remington, I would go with the 22-250. Fortunately, I have all 3 so don't have to choose.
