Would the 223 be a good round for wild hogs or would something heavier be better? Like maybe a 7.62x39? I have both in bolt-action, BTW.

It will work just fine for hogs, especially from an ambush style hunt. (Hog doesn't know you are there, so you make a well placed shot.

A bigger hole in vitals is better though.

Are you getting some pigs in your neck of the woods?

.223 works fine with a bullet designed for penetration.

Actually I'm not; just curious in case I get the bug and wanted to know which rifle would be best. My rifles are the Ruger GSR in 223 and the CZ 527 in 223 and 7.62x39. If I did hog hunt, I'd think, like someone else said earlier, that the ambush would be the best thing to do. Just lay in wait and put one in his ear before Mr. Hog knows what hit him.

I've killed a metric **** ton of hogs with everything from 22 mag to 45/70 and a couple with 375 h&h. Bigger definitely works better , 223 will get the job done. I like head shots near the ear with the smaller rounds
