These 2 guns get the most attention out of all my guns.

Yesterday I set up paper at 500 yards with some loads built with 155 A-Max bullets.

The savage .308 is a 10FP with accutrigger is a fat 20.5" barrel that started life with 24" .
The Mossberg is a thin barrel 22" 100atr .

The 30-06 load was R-P brass range picked up multiple times fired and annealed, FLS. 53gr IMR 4064,BR-2 primers 155 A-Max seated 3.280".

The .308 Range picked up Winchester brass multiple times fired Not annealed,FLS 46.5gr Varget 210M primers 155 A-Max seated 2.818"

Brass was not sorted by weight and not sorted by times fired.
It was sorted by neck ID After sizing.

The 30-06 Velocity was 2980 FPS average.
The .308 Velocity was 2815 FPS average.

The Lapua cases with 45.5gr varget I tested back to back were 2780 FPS average.

3 shot group at 500 yards The first 2 from the Mossberg 30-06 were 1.8" apart It always pulled the 3rd shot higher and this time it did the same. much higher for a 4.993" 3 shot group.

The .308 Savage printed a triangle group 2 closest were 3.2" and 4.615" 3 shot group.

This is not the best load for my .308 it was one I was fiddling with yesterday for fun with some old Winchester cases.
Seeing what speed I could bet with a load of varget and the 155 gr.

Shots were taken at 3:30pm yesterday in the full sun and wind.

30-06 is marked with red lines.
Both gun scopes were clicked up 8". I will be heading back out to test the .308 with the 168 gr rounds.

Thanks I feel i fouled it up really as the position I was shooting from was not a good one.
Can't wait to test my good 168 gr loads in the .308 at 500 yards

My scopes are 1/4" per click at 100 yards and are marked turrets I turned the turrets to raise point of impact at 100 yards 8" or 32 clicks.
This put me right on with the 30-06 at 500 yards..
A little low for the .308.

Gotcha, I thought dang, 8" to get to 500yds from a 100yd zero....that's a flat shooting round. You've got about 41.9" of drop to shoot 500yds. That's the same for my 7wsm shooting a 180gr Hyb @ 2,900fps.

I think the 155 Amax is under rated for BC or it holds a high BC even at slower speeds.
My chrony reads 100fps slower than my friends.. or did when we were doing some shooting one day.

About 15 feet from the muzzle I was getting 2980 from the 30-06 with 155gr with my chrony,, i think mine is more correct.
I have sent the 2156? palma 155 through the same gun at 3176fps It has a .504BC that was a flat shooting round..
That 3176fps was safe in my gun.. I went faster and got just a bit of stiff bolt lift.. so I backed it down.. accuracy was awesome.. but that bullet penciled through deer and hogs. Not good for me .. so I went with other bullets.

I had a 7MM rem mag and got to thinking I did not need it as my 30-06 was only 100-150fps slower.. so why bother.

I took that 30-06 load to banner without touching the scope from the 500 yard setting.

First 2 shots were 8" high from aim point 3rd shot was 8.5" high. @ 100 yards.
That I believe is a flat shooting round.
the three closest to center are the loads i shot at 100 and the same as the 500 yard load 155Amax
