I recently acquired a .357 Magnum, Model 19-5 in pretty good shape. I know S&W has a website where you can do a history search for $50, but does anyone know where I can look up the SN# and get all the gun specifics...??
If you provide a serial number (PM or "x" out the last two numbers) I can look it up later today and give you a born on date. I can tell you that the 19-5 is the first model that is not pinned and recessed. Its a neat gun, probably more a shooter than a collection piece. From a collector point of view, the pinned and recessed guns are generally much more desireable. The 2 1/2" and 4" barrels seem to be more popular.

Still looking for someone to decode the SN# for me...
I don't have the book but from what I have found in a search this morning it was most likely manufactured around 1985.
