Thanks everyone for the feedback.. I leaning more and more towards the 9mm. I was shopping around and I'm starting to think the M&P9 might be a good fit since my wife has an M&P22 we use for plinking.

Well I'll go on a different route. Buy yourself two revolvers, and one rifle, with all three chambering .357magnum. Any of the three can shoot .38 long colt, .38 Special, or .357 magnum.
1. Rifle Marlin 1894c
2. Ruger GP100, S&W model 27/28 4"bbl, S&W model 686/586, S&W 66/19
3. Ruger SP101. I would list the little S&W J-frame's, but in my opinion they(even the all steel models) are to light for the cartridge.

You can also do the same with the .44 magnum/.44 special.

I like .40 S&W for the very logical reason that when I went to buy my Glock I wanted a 19 or 23. They had a 23 for sale, and I have just kind of stuck with a 40 S&W since then. I just gave away the 9mm that I had, and I have been contemplating if I even want to replace it or just stick with the 40.
