Having seen Koshinn's post in the AR picture thread (http://www.okshooters.com/showthread.php?22498-Lets-see-all-the-AR-s!!&p=1518613#post1518613), I've been thinking about AR rifle cases.

I'm looking for something compact like what Koshinn is referring to, but I have an 18" barrel with a flash-hider so there's no way it will fit in a small case like that. So does anyone make square-ish, soft sided cases smaller than the standard 35" or so I see everywhere? I don't mind separating the halves before transporting, and I might even prefer it.

In any case (ha, pun), which case do you use and why?

They're called takedown cases.

Since you're looking for something soft sided, it sounds like this is what you want:

But I'm going with a pelican case because I want something waterproof, impact resistant, able to be taken on an airplane (hard-sided and locks... and checked-in, of course, and because it's so small, it can be inside a larger piece of luggage), and something that doesn't look like a gun. Which is why my SBR is going into a pelican case made for a laptop. By the way, it might not be legal to carry a gun in a laptop case or violin case or guitar case in the passenger cabin of a vehicle, but it IS legal to have it in the open in the passenger cabin and it IS legal to have it in a non-standard case in the trunk.

I've got a Storm case, which is just like a Pelican....I like it, holds my AR, all the mags, 2 pistols with mags and still room for more accessories...has wheels on one end so you can pull it behind you. Got it at H&H on sale...got it dirt cheap. Its not compact at all, but I like it.

Just stuff it in a suitcase and let the barrel hang out, or get a long tube sock to pull down over it. Hope this helps.

I'm pretty fond of take down style cases and use one regularly. I like that I can come and go from my house without drawing attention.

This is the one I've been using for the past few years

But I've been thinking of picking up one of these bags to convert into a takedown bag.
