Which bullets are you referring to? I don't find any that are cheaper 'by a good margin.' Unless, maybe, you are buying in extremely large quantities which I cannot justify. Thanks.

I was talking about bulk. Usually 2k to get the reduced price but even buying smaller quantities of Montana Gold or Precision Delta the pricing is basically a wash and you get a vastly superior bullet. I'm just not a fan of plated bullets. A coated hardcast lead bullet is much more forgiving in loading and usually more accurate by a long ways, but if you want copper, jacketed is the way to go.

ETA: Precision Delta is loading their JHPs in a defensive load now, so there is that if you want it. Testing looks decent. I don't think they are on par with Gold Dot, HST or the like, but probably as good as Horandy's XTP.

I do not have a 9 mm but I do have 357 mag and cast a bunch of 158 and 170 gr bullets and thought if I had to reload for 9mm I would size them to .356" and try them.
I have shot 300gr slugs and 265gr from my 45acp.. very hard hitting on bowling pins.
I think I read where some people loaded heavies in the 9mm.

I have not shot any berries.
I have some Extreme plated round nose .451" or were they .452".. anyway they were not as accurate as my Lee cast bullets so I quit using them.
Just keep casting my own pills.

They penetrate wood and animals pretty well. I shot a dog killing chickens with a 115gr xtreme hp drt. Where exactly is the pain in loading plated bullets? I ask that because ive loaded tens of thousands of them with no issue. As far as cost, where are you getting a jhp bullet cheaper than a plated xtreme? I buy commercially and cant buy jhp at my cost cheaper than street price on xtremes.

Sorry, just now saw this post.

The PITA is that it's real easy to shave and/or damage the copper coating, it's only about as thick as aluminum foil. It's also fairly easy to crimp right through it so you have to watch that close if you are running unsorted range brass like I do for most of my loads due to varying case length and thickness. I've also had the case swage them down to being undersize after loading just from good neck tension. I had .45s doing this when loaded in military brass. A .452 diameter bullet loaded, then pulled with a kinetic bullet puller was about .4508 IIRC when measured after pulling. Plated bullets need to be treated like dead soft swaged bullets, because that's pretty much what they are.

Cost:
Berrys 9mm 124 grain Hybrid HP = 12.8 to 12.1 cent apiece.

Precision Delta 124 grain JHP = 20.0 to 8.9 cents apiece depending on qty. You only have to buy 2000 to get them at 8.9 cents and shipping is free. Seems like a no brainer.

Acme coated hardcast is 8.75 to 6.5 cents.

Like I said I just can't see the need to mess with plated.

Maybe you got a bad batch? I treat them no differently than jhp, fmj, or cast. The plating doesnt get shaved on my presses, i dont overcrimp them, there is literally nothing special ive had to do when loading any of them. Zero accuracy issues, they expand properly, penetrate plenty. Im saying you must have gotten a bad batch because a proper flare will prevent shaving from any bullet.

Yeah, I don't show them any extra care over any other bullet and I have not had any problems. I've loaded quite a few of Berry's other plated bullets, but not the HHP. I can't justify buying 2K at a time of any bullet, so these are really a pretty good value.
