I never dropped the slide until I did a function test, in which the hammer fell.

With regards to the complete teardown, is there anything that a newbie could screw up with the reassembly? I consider myself somewhat mechanically inclined, as I have built and rebuilt several nitro powered RC helicoptors, but they won't destroy things if improperly reassembled (oh wait, yes they do! :cry11:

In all honesty, I think that I would be able to remove the various parts from the frame. The only problem would be that I would not know what to look for, since I am new to the 1911 platform. Anyone have any suggestions on what to look for?

No matter what, I've heard that Arnel at Advanced Tactical is the man to speak to about the RIA's. No matter what I will be contacting him on Monday.

If I decide to take a look at the frame parts, I will post some pics and see what you guys have to say.

Thanks for all the help!

Did you watch the animation of tear down? And did you catch the barrel link when you put it together?

bummer it happened to your new 1911... puts the doubts in motion.

for what it's worth, it's an easy fix, once you get a bit better acquainted with your 1911.

as others have stated, you need a bit more tension on your left blade. which controls sear tension to fix hammer follow.

middle blade controls first stage tension for trigger. right blade controls tension for rear grip safety.

highly recommend not fixing anything to do with trigger yourself. until you thoroughly know your 1911.

Septic Here is the proceedure:

1. unload the gun
2. Field strip the pistol

Now with the basic frame in hand

1. remove the grip pannels
2. Place the hammer in the uncocked position
3. remove the MainSpring Housing (MSH) pin (the one at the bottom of the grip) Remove it using a small punch. From right pushing out to the left. (looking at the back of the frame.)

4. Slide the MSH down.
TheSear spring may fall out now so remove the MSH slowly so you can see the orientation.

5. Remove the Thumb Safety, By moving the thumb safety to about half on half off wiggle while pulling it to the left. The Thumb Safety is also the pin for the Grip Safety. (CAUTIONwhen removing the thumb safety, There is a small spring and 2 small pins that run in the tube between the slide release and thumb safety. This spring can fly a long way.) Sorry I can't thik of what he tube is called at the moment.

6. Remove the Grip Safety.

This is as far as you need to go to adjust the Sear spring.

Looking at the Sear Spring there is a small tab on the bottom of the spring that indexes in the small slot on the frame. The top of the spring has 3 leaves. With the spring oriented with the small tab facing away from you the spring leaves should bend slightly away from you except the right leaf. The left leaf is what you want to adjust by bending it slightly away from you (adding tension to the spring against the sear. The middle leaf is tension on the disconnector, the right leaf should bend toward you. The right leaf adds tension to the grip safety.

If you wish to tear it completely down to the raw frame. The pin that holds the hammer can be removed and the hammer and strut can then be removed, again right to left. The next pin hold the sear and disconnector right to left. Orientation for the sear is the small triangle shaped part of the sear faces you. the sear is "C" shaped the "C" part faces you with the disconnector going in the middle of the sear. To remove the trigger, Push the mag release in approximately 1/8" and withe a screw driver turn the screw 1/4 Turn. the mag release will remove from the left side of the frame. push the trigger out the back of the frame.

Good luck

There are no real trick to reassembly. It's just reversed. However you can use the punch to align the disconnector and sear, then push the punch out with the pin that holds them in place. Everything else is pretty straight forward.

Guys, you all have been a big help. I know that all of you have better things to do than give some stranger a crash course in gunsmithing, yet here you are!

Thanks for the video and the instructions for the takedown procedure. It looks a lot easier than I thought. Now I just need to decide if I want to try adjusting the spring myself or send it into for warranty work.

I will sleep on it and make a decision. Either way, thanks for the advice.

I have posted this 1911 porn a few times and it will help you do a complete tear down..... http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v323/sv1cec/videos/?action=view&current=DisasseblyAnimationHR.flv

I wish there was a re-assembly version of that. Something tells me that it doesn't just "pop" back together like it comes apart. There are surely some tricks here and there.

I found the 1911 porn I have been looking for. The re-assembly video!
