Carry Gun Care

How often do you clean your carry gun? Do you oil it up between cleanings? I generally dont go 2 weeks without cleaning mine, but this summer I was having problems with surface rust, I suspect do to heavy sweating as I work outside everyday. Anyone else run into this?

I have Glocks.. I clean'em about every 10 years!

Now my LCP had a small rust spot form on the back end of the slide due to sweat.. where it protruded from the pocket holster. It may also have gotten wet during a rain storm.

My lcp has the same spot, but I use a nylon pocket holster with foam lining and I think that holster Is just soaking up water

I typically shoot my carry gun (Beretta Nano) with my carry ammo once a month. I usually go shoot more often, but with range/target ammo. It gets cleaned after each range trip. The outside gets a wipedown each day. If it has gotten wet or dirty I will clean it as needed. So far I have not had any rust issues despite wearing it either IWB or in a pocket while working outside this summer and getting it pretty sweaty.

Tuf-Cloth once a week. Full Cleaning once a month.

Since I started this thread use came up with a new method, since my pocket holster has a foam lining, I've been spraying down the inside with rem oil about once a week. I shoot it at least once a month so it gets a good cleaning then anyhow.

I carry a stainless S&W 642. The only thing that has ever gotten some surface rust is the grip screw as it is not stainless.
