A friend of mine shoots the cci standard velocity .22 ammo though his suppressed pistol and m&p 22 and it runs quiet as can be....what gives? I thought the ammo had to be subsonic ammo to run suppressed?
Velocities stated for 22lr ammo is based on use in a rifle. (hence Long Rifle). Same ammo in a pistol is considerably slower. Most LR ammo will be subsonic out of a pistol (or very close).
That makes sense but he was also shooting those out of a 16 inch barrel rifle...I didn't have a decibel meter, but they were really quiet to me....just wondered if I should keep looking for something like a Gemtech subsonic round?
I'm just wondering if it's worth looking for subsonic rounds or is standard velocity good enough?
