If you've ever been interested, or even curious, as to just what Cowboy Action Shooting is, you have a great opportunity to quench that curiosity, talk to participants from all over the U.S. and see some of the fastest cowboy shooters in the world in mid April. We will be hosting over 400 shooters from all over the world. Our match, Land Run has become one of the must-attend events in the world of Cowboy action shooting. We have even been featured by Michael Baine on the Outdoor channel!

April 19-21 is the Single Action Shooting Societies Southwest Regional Championship hosted right here in Oklahoma City at the OKC Gun Club. The fun starts on Thursday with specialized side matches featuring everything from ultra-fast double-barrel shotguns and single action pistols to folks shooting derringers, long range buffalo rifles, and even 5-stand matches where everyone is shooting side by sides! Just about every participant will be dressed in period attire to look like working cowboys, B-western movie stars and everything in between.

There will be tons of vendors selling everything from reloading supplies to leather holsters and firearms (oh, and FOOD!!) so come on out, bring the family and meet the nicest group of folks you're liable to ever find on a gun range! Check our site for a full list of events and times as well as directions out to the range. The public is welcome and encouraged to come on out!

SASS looks like fun, but I’m just not interested in all the costume stuff.

In most categories you can dress up in as little or as much as you want. There are a few categories that are considered "costume" categories. B-western and Classic Cowboy both have stringent requirements. Folks that choose to shoot those categories really love the dress up part. My daughter shoots Lady B-Western and has all sorts of fun with it.

There are folks that show up wearing jeans, boots, a western looking shirt and a cowboy hat. Things that are specifically banned: sneakers of any kind, military boots, modern camouflage patterns, Shady Brady hats, and unless it's really really hot, T-shirts - oh, and shorts. no self-respecting cowboy wears shorts! (skirts for the ladies are just fine.)

Of course, for new shooters, we are happy to have you regardless. forget the costume for now and just come have fun. Heck, I've had my son out to shoot with us in his full army fatigues (cause that's what he had at the time!). No one is gonna call you for not wearing the right thing. most folks that get hooked learn to love the costume part to some degree. it's fun to dress up in your finest period duds, strut around the Cowboy Hall of Fame during our private access time, then enjoy a meal with 400+ like minded folks dressed up just as nice as you (or nicer!) at the Land Run Banquet. It's a fun break from the vagaries of every day life.

The SASS Motto is "come for the shooting, stay for the people" - and it's as true as it gets.

I have been shooting out there with USPSA for a long time before they got their own range to the north. I really enjoyed watching all the period clothing and the guns.
Those folks have put a ton of time into building that range and its an impressive facility.

Sounds fun, hope to attend as a spectator. I will not be wearing any repellent, and expect to catch the bug.

I see what you did there. . . As a joke, my best friend once signed me up with the 'misspelled' version of my name.... he thought it was hilarious.
