from the photo you provided i would say use a shotgun only and yes at a low angle. you don't want to be charged with homicide. i would bet if you take out the dominant one the others will just bark at you from now on.

If you have a handgun permit you can keep a shotgun tube not chamber loaded in the truck. Rack one and send it.
I keep hearing/seeing conflicting information on that. Wish I knew which was true.
Now, let's be clear about taking a shot. The shot will have to be at a sharp, downward angle, which means the dog will be almost upon me. To make a shot at distance increases the likely hood of the bullet traveling and impacting elsewhere. It will have to be a one shot stop or else I am hamburger. I am sure the Alaskan is good for it.
One thing to think about. Them dogs can seriously move, and will be looking to do some damage if they decide to go that route. If so, I can guarantee you a dog can close 15 feet faster than a man can. It can be really easy to shoot yourself in the leg trying to follow the the dog charging you. And that's just a bad day. Again, personal experience. I have great reflexes and am pretty quick, but at one point in time I had a pit with its jaws around my neck. That kinda panic makes it really for a man to accidentally shoot himself or something else in an attempt to save his own life, as morbid and ironic as that sounds.
