I was amused to hear the cute reporter girl explain that it IS a homicide, when a person shoots another person dead. Just clearing up a minor point of Oklahoma law for us. No context needed. Almost sounds like they’re disappointed to say “ police released the homeowner with no charge”.

Homicide simply means that one person caused the death of another. That's all. Remember, there is such a thing as justifiable homicide. If you legally defend yourself by using deadly force, you have committed homicide.

If you legally defended yourself it is justifiable homicide. Lacking the adjective leaves it questionable when the "legally" means it should be explicitly justifiable.

And the reason it's important is that English is apparently a declining language, and most of the folks who live here don't really read or speak it fluently, anymore.
