Nope he just plumb forgot to pull the trigger. Put one of the rounds back in and boom. No failure besides the human one.

that deer doesn't even flinch for the first two shots.

Around where I hunt there are pump jacks every where with "johnny poppers" on them. A gun shot will rarely make one look up. What will cause them to bolt, is shooting one and it thrashing around.

"what the...? Did he really just shoot at me?"

"No way, I'm gonna go get Fred, this guy has to be related to the guy with the rope."

"Strike 3 sucka! Fred, hey Fred! We got another one, get the guys!!"

That's why my boys are learning to deer hunt with only one bullet. I have two spares in my pocket if they need them. They know they only have one shot and they had better make it count. On top of that I told them they could not shoot at anything further than 200 yards this first year out.
