Good hog rifle

I use an Ithaca 37 DeerSlayer 3 in 12g w/a Nikon monarch BDC scope... Hasn't failed me within 150 yards.

All the same, it's hard to beat a 30/30 truck gun

I've put down many a hog with my 336, I wouldn't worry about about it unless you're just itching for a new toy :-)

Distance will probably be 25 to 75 yards, baited and running (which is why I'd prefer a semi-auto platform). Not reloading, just using factory rounds.

That close, anything will work - go crazy 45-70 marlin, 12ga slugger, 458 SOCOM ... 22WMR!

From 75 yards and in, I'd use my 3gun shotgun loaded up with 10 rounds of Federal flight control 00 buck.

sharp pointed stick? Really I think the ole 30-30 do fine esp. with a peep sight. Once i get the loading figured out my rifle of choice will be my 1898 Krag sporter/bubba. 30-40 Krag in a slick working bolt action with a redfield peep sight. Other than that would use my garand or an AR if i ever get parts to build my lowers....

I hunt hogs in pretty heavily wooded country... so because of this I use a heavier caliber... first hog i shot i did so with one of my favorite calibers, 243. although it was a fatal double lung shot, that hog ran, and ran, and ran...down into a 75 foot ravine and i thought i was gonna die getting it back out...anyone that has hunted around spavinaw knows what I am talking about... \

Since then I have killed several with my marlin 336 which performs very well for hogs. for ammo in my 30-30 i use the hornady leverevolution. also I have used my 8mm mauser and was very impressed, but i reload for the 8mm so it is not your standard underloaded factory ammo...

but there is alot of far fetched stories about hogs. I seriously have killed just as many with my 357 magnum single action revolver and my RIA 1911 45acp as i have with my rifles... i dropped one that dressed over 200lbs with my 357 at 40 yards... 158gr hunting load did the trick just fine...

All of this is to say, if you are accurate with your 336 its all the gun you will ever need...

I don't hunt hogs, but if I did it'd be with my howa .308 heavy barrel varmiter.
