I had a buddy tell me he adds rock salt to his ice chest to help keep his beer colder. As long as you wipe off the salt, it sounds like a great idea to me. Has anyone else tried this?

Yep....with milk,eggs, sugar and flavor=homemade ice cream.

It would work to lower the temperature of the ice water, inturn making the beer a little colder.

Simple Chemistry

Rock salt lowers the freezing point of water to about 15 degrees F (-9 degrees C) in an average outdoor environment, instead of the normal 32 degrees F (0 degrees C).

***Just be careful of the ice chest or container.***

The salt might help the rust process with a metal container....and it might corrode an aluminum container......thats why ice....just ice is used...unless the container would be plastic.

For beer.....this is what I have in my man cave.

A kegerator....holds a keg and keeps it cool.
