A grand jury indicted Gov. Rick Perry on two felony counts on Friday, charging that he abused his power last year when he tried to pressure the district attorney here, a Democrat, to step down by threatening to cut off state financing to her office.

The indictment left Mr. Perry, a Republican, the first Texas governor in nearly 100 years to face criminal charges and presented a major roadblock to his presidential ambitions at the very time that he had been showing signs of making a comeback.

Grand jurors in Travis County charged Mr. Perry with abusing his official capacity and coercing a public servant, according to Michael McCrum, the special prosecutor assigned to the case.

The long-simmering case has centered on Mr. Perry’s veto power as governor. His critics asserted that he used that power as leverage to try to get an elected official — Rosemary Lehmberg, the district attorney in Travis County — to step down after her arrest on a drunken-driving charge last year. Ms. Lehmberg is Austin’s top prosecutor and oversees a powerful public corruption unit that investigates state, local and federal officials...

If threatening to veto a bill is an abuse of power, can we indict Obama? I see this as a huge money making opportunity for Perry that won't go anywhere in court.

The woman he tried to force to resign is a Dem in charge of a the public integrity unit. We all know that to a Dem breaking the law when you are supposed to enforce it means nothing. A Republican would have been pressured to resign too but would have done it without the fuss.

Ignorance will and should be his defense. Predictably, he broke a couple of laws he didn't know existed.
He'll appear in court without his new smart glasses. His Lawyer will explain that Rick has a long history of being dumber than a box of rocks. I'm not being sarcastic here. This is how it's going to be. He may pay a small fine.

Either that, or he'll spend 99 years picking cotton at Huntsville.

Should Oklahoma County Clerk Carolynn Caudill have resigned when the Oklahoma County Republican Party Executive Committee wanted her out of office after her dui/leaving the scene of an accident which wasn't her first?

http://www.examiner.com/article/county-republicans-call-for-clerk-investigation

How about after her work records were revealed?

"The records, which only go back to January, 2008 show: There were a total of 107 working days which comes to 856 hours of operation @ 40 hours per week or 160 hours per month; Caudill "badged" in 57 of those days. There was never one time that Caudill exceeded 20 hours in the office per week; She logged a total of 58 hours in February, 44 hours in March, 41 hours in April, 43 hours in May, and 32 hours in June. That equals 218 hours of being in the office out of a total of 856 total hours of operation, the release claims."

What's that got to do with Rick Perry? Rick Perry's about to be sent up the river. He's going to the Big House. He's going inside. He'll be in the slammer busting rocks in his zebra striped suit. He'll get married to a big old boy named bubba just for the protection he provides.
Maybe he'll even be strapped to a gurney with a lethal cocktail pumping in his arm.
